@Erichcollab, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your OMEN by HP 16.1 inch Gaming Laptop (16-wf0000) is experiencing overheating and frequent power cycling, especially after the warranty has expired. Let's work through this together.

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

Start by checking for hardware issues:

  • Press F2 repeatedly at startup to enter HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.
  • Run the System Test or specifically the Thermal Test.
  • Alternatively, download and run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics for Windows.

Clean Air Vents and Check for Dust

Overheating is often caused by dust buildup:

  • Power off the laptop and unplug it.
  • Use compressed air to clean the vents and fans.
  • Ensure the laptop is on a hard, flat surface for proper airflow.

Update BIOS and Drivers

Outdated firmware can cause thermal mismanagement:

Check Power Settings

Misconfigured power settings can cause sleep/wake loops:

  • Go to Settings > System > Power & Battery > Additional Power Settings.
  • Choose High Performance or Balanced.
  • Disable Fast Startup under Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do.

Monitor Temperatures

Use tools like OMEN Gaming Hub or HWMonitor to track CPU/GPU temps. If temps exceed 90°C consistently, thermal paste reapplication or fan replacement may be needed.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Unfortunately I tried to run the diag tool, but now the laptop will not even power on, so not much I can do with it now.
