Came with 8GBx1 RAM factory installed, believe ok to add one 16GB to make it 24, right?

Yes, the service manual mentions the configurations the notebook could have been bought with.
No problem to insert 8 + 16GB

Hi,
Yes, that should work fine if you have an Intel Core CPU in the machine. Supports max 32GB of DDR4 2400MHz RAM. So 24 GB is good. You could go with 2x8GB or 2x16GB so that the RAM will run in dual channel mode.

Somehow, the PDF manual only lists out 8+4, no 8+16. Copied from manual:
