I had a 601 battery error so I purchased a new battery from HP, installed but again, not recognised. I can only power up if power cord plugged in. I have run diagnostics which dont recognise the battery. Drivers are up to date. Ive uninstalled battery drivers and reinstalled.

Hello RappaMan.
Sometimes part of the circuit connecting the battery to the motherboard fails, and in this case by "installing" the battery you have actually just placed it on the motherboard and closed the bottom cover, since no connection to the battery is really there. Is there any sign when you plug in the battery that the system reacts to this "installation"? If not, it's time to visit a repair shop and have your system looked at....
