I have a 1 ½-year-old 17” HP Laptop Model  8VP96AV that the bottom cover and the top cover are broken where the screen hinges attach. Because they are made of plastic and the hinges feel extremely tight. I believe the Bottom Cover P/N is L22515-001? I want to replace the top cover with a Backlit keyboard, what would the part number be for that party? The current keyboard is not a Backlit one. Both parts are Black in color. I am a retired computer tech so any tips would be appreciated. Jimmy

Thanks for the manual info, just confirmed part numbers I have are correct and the R & R procedures are great. Now my question is:

Can I replace the Black, not Backlit keyboard and top cover with a Silver Backlit keyboard and top cover?

As far as it working I can't say for sure. I can't see HP having different motherboard revisions for backlit vs non backlit. I may be looking into this myself when the warranty expires on mine. The biggest issue people have when they ask about upgrading keyboards with backlit is the complete teardown of the body.

The question has been raised 4 times or so in the past 6  months, while most everyone says it'll fit, some say you just don't know until you try it.
