Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I was wondering whether my laptop supported additional monitors through the use of a USB-C hub? I've bought a USB-C hub in which the display ports on it a providing no signal to the monitor (the cables are fine and have been tested). I queried with the manufacturer and they've stated that this laptop does not have a type c interface (I'm sure it does....) and the USB 3.0 of the laptop does not support video transmission and only data transmission.

I tested the hub on my work laptop (a dell) and this also didn't work. I had to use a USB-C to USB-A adaptor however I use a dell docking station with it at work which is a USB-C type connector with an adaptor to USB-A port and it happily displays 2 screens ontop of the laptop screen so I'm not fully sure.

Would anyone be able to shed any light on this?

Cheers

Hello @YCrowley,

I regret to inform you that the USB-C port on the HP Pavilion - 15-cw0505sa is data transfer only. I have yet to have seen a Pavilion series laptop with a USB-C port supporting the DisplayPort Alternate Mode or Thunderbolt 3 mode, which is required for video output.

The Dell laptop you have probably supports Thunderbolt 3.

You mentioned that the USB ports on your laptop don't support video output - have you tested it yet? If you haven't tested it yet, please try using this model I've recommended numerous times to users on the forum. It may not be the most reliable but it works.

Kind regards,

Eddy
