Can I upgrade my Pavilion 17t-ab000 SSD 125 GB drive to 500 GB?

Yes you can. Here is the Manual:
It can accept a 2.5 inch hard drive and an M.2 disk either the SATA kind or the much faster PCIe/NVME variety.
The M.2 slot is just to the left of the hard drive when the hard drive is placed in the lower left as you are looking at it.
This is the HP recommended 512 gig NVME M.2 disk:
512 GB 2280 M2 PCIe 3x4SS NVMe TLC PA, for use with non-touch screen products 847110-004
This will work:

is this earlier posting of moving from smaller SSD to the new larger SSD feasible for my Pavilion 17t-000?
"What I had hoped to do was perhaps get a USB3 enclosure for the proposed new 500GB SSD and clone the 128GB SSD to that and then put the 500GB SSD in the laptop,
Is this possible perhaps using the free software that Samsung provides?"
Again, many thanks.

Actually you have to do it in the other direction. A USB to SATA M.2 adapter is available but there is no USB to PCIe/NVME M.2 adapter so put the new 500 gig NVME in the laptop and the old 128 gig SATA M.2 in the adapter and boot from the cloning tool disk.
You can also just make a Windows system image backup and restore that to the larger drive. That is the way I have been doing it and works very reliably using a Media Creation Tool Windows 10 install disk to launch the process.
Many ways to skin the cat.
