my laptop will not turn on. If the power cable is inserted, the charging light comes on, even when the charger is not plugged into the wall socket. Have tried removing battery and power and holding down power button for one minute, but does not fix the problem. Any ideas please?

dv6-6156ea is the model number.

If you remove the battery and then plug in the AC adapter without plugging the adapter into the wall, does the charging light come on?

Sorry to say but I think you either have a bad AC adapter, which would not be too bad, or a bad motherboard, which would be bad.

If I remove the battery and plug in the AC adapter without plugging it into the power socket, no light comes on.

And if you plug the adapter into the wall socket does the light come on if the battery is out of the machine?

Yes it does

Well then we are pretty sure the power supply is still good. That means the most likely issue is a bad motherboard.
