I have a laptop (HP Spectre x360 Convertible 15-ch0xx) which is about 4 years old. Recently, I've noticed that it would randomly shut down. I noticed it was an issue when it was fully charged, but if it wasn't connected to the charger, it wouldn't power on when I pressed the power button. It runs fine if it is attached to the charger.
I ran the "System Fast Test" using the HP PC hardware diagnostic tool, and when it got to the battery test portion, the screen went black, and I was unable to do anything (the power button on the side was still lit, and I had to do a hard reset to restart the computer.) This has happened several times, and the battery test is unable to complete. I'm assuming that my battery needs to be replaced (it currently won't go above 95%). An unexpected shutdown also occured when I booted up a game (Civilization 6). I don't receive any error messages; just a black screen.
I haven't made any software/driver changes that I'm aware of. My internet connection is wireless.

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:
- 1. Go to Start, search for Device Manager, and open this result.
- 2. Expand batteries.
- 3. Right-click on the ACPI option (usually the 2nd option) and select delete or uninstall. Follow the prompts.
- 4. Shut down the computer.
- 5. Disconnect the charger.
- 6. Remove the battery. (only for removable battery)
- 7. Hold down the power button for 1 minute.
- 8. Insert the battery only. (only for removable battery)
- 9. Attempt to turn the battery on.
If possible, consider replacing the battery with a new one.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
