I have a problem with my HP Laptop's Battery. How do I make the battery last longer? The battery doesn't last mostly for over an hour with me having 100% even though I bought it in January.
Here are my laptop specifications if it helps:

Hi @j1onal,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Here are some tips to help extend the battery life of your HP laptop.
Adjust Power Settings
- Battery Saver Mode: Enable Battery Saver mode from the Windows settings. This will limit background activity and adjust settings to extend battery life.
- Power Plan: Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Power Options and select a power plan optimized for battery life, such as "Power Saver."
Screen Brightness
- Lower the screen brightness or use the auto-brightness feature to adjust the brightness based on your environment.
Close Unnecessary Applications
- Close any applications or browser tabs you’re not using. Some apps, especially those running in the background, can consume a lot of power.
Turn Off Bluetooth and Wi-Fi
- If you’re not using Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, turn them off to save battery life.
Update Drivers and BIOS
- Ensure your drivers and BIOS are up to date. Sometimes, battery issues can be related to outdated drivers or BIOS.
Check Battery Health
- Battery Report: Run a battery report to check the health of your battery. Open Command Prompt and type powercfg /batteryreport to generate a report. Review the report for any anomalies.
Disable Unnecessary Startup Programs
- Go to Task Manager > Startup and disable any programs that are not necessary for startup. This can reduce the load on your system and improve battery life.
Optimize Battery Usage for Apps
- Go to Settings > System > Battery > Battery usage by app and limit or restrict apps that use a lot of battery.
Manage Background Apps
- Go to Settings > Privacy > Background apps and turn off apps you don't need running in the background.
Perform a Battery Calibration
- Sometimes, calibrating the battery can help. Fully charge the battery, then let it drain completely before charging it back up to 100%.
Update Windows
- Make sure Windows is updated to the latest version, as updates can sometimes include improvements for battery performance.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
