We have an issue with SEVERAL new Probook 650 G4 models. The integrated Smart Card Reader does not seem to work. It does not appear in the device manager of Windows until we switch off the power saving on the smart card option in the BIOS. Then it is detected and wa can install the driver (HP support assistant then installs Alcor driver) but still no detection of a smart card when it is inserted.
We use Belgian E-id reader software. With an external card reader this works fine.
We already have this problem with three new machines. Update to the latest BIOS version also doesn't help.
On one machine HP support already replaced the card reader but no change. I'm starting to think there is a problem with the BIOS with this card reader. On other machines (Elitebook) the card reader shows up in the device manager when a card is inserted (even if the power saving option in the BIOS is checked) In this type of laptop that doesnt work.

Hi everyone...
I had the same problem...
But just try to put your smartcard in the reader properly...
When you insert the card, just push it a little further untill you see the messege that a smart card has been found.
As simple as that...
Good luck! 🙂
