Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

So the laptop is 3 days old. I've purchased it through the internet. It doesn't seem like the package has been damaged or anything, so I don't think it is physically broken. Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050ti 4gb, 8gb DDR4-2600mhz, Intel core i7-7700HQ

The problem is when I run any game, even on it's lowest settings, the game runs smoothly for a minute(3,6 ghz in turbo/2.7 ghz normal), but then it randomly starts dropping frequency to 0.79ghz(it appears to be the minimal frequency for this processor). Thereafter, the in-game fps drops from 60-100 to 10-15. Any game becomes unplayable at that point. It goes like that for ~10 seconds and then it becomes normal again. So the processor works 5sec as it should and 5sec as it certainly shouldn't. The interesting part is when doing nothing, the processor also works at it's peak - 3.6ghz, even if there's nothing else running. There's no possibility of a miner, because the processor is loaded only 5% when afk and 40%max in-game.

I've used MSI Afterburner and a Task Manager to track everything. Graphics card is doing just fine, as 1050ti should do. RAM - there's 3gb always free in-game. But the processor seems to be the trouble. The peak temperature for the processor was 71* Celsius. Nothing overheats. I haven't installed anything that could've done it yet. I've tried so many things to get rid of this annoying thing. I am desperate now.

Try these steps to update the graphics card -

1) In Windows, search for and open Device Manager.
2) In the list of devices, look for Graphics Drivers and expand the list
3) Right-click the drivers and select Update Driver Software.
4) Click Search automatically for updated driver software.
5) Follow the on-screen instructions to install the updated driver.
6) Restart your computer to complete the installation of the updates.

Also, try updating the computer -

Step 1 Windows Updates -

1) In the search box, type and open Windows Updates.
2) Check for updates.
3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Step 2 HP Support Assistant Updates -

1) In the search box, type and open HP Support Assistant.
2) Check for updates.
3) If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Step 3 Update the BIOS -

Download and install the BIOS from this link

  • Most games allow you to change the graphics settings. Using a lower graphic quality often improves FPS.
  • Close any applications or programs that are not being used.
  • Plug notebook PCs into an AC adapter to give the graphics card more power.

Let me know how that goes.

Thank you, I have done all those steps, except the BIOS update, but still nothing worked. I have already phoned the hp technical support in my country and he adviced me to update the bios. After updating it, the problem seems to be gone. I'm glad it's over 🙂
