Re: RAM, HDD and Webcam upgrade

What is your budget on the SSD? 500 gig one is about $220US right now. 500 gig hdd is about $60US

Memory:

Re: RAM, HDD and Webcam upgrade

First thing you need is the Manual:

Manual

Maximum memory is 8 gigs consisting of 2 x 4 gig DDR3-1333 modules.

It uses standard SATA 2.5 inch wide 9.5 mm (or 7mm) thick hard drives or SSDs.

Let us know where you live (country) and we can make some purchase recommendations on memory and hdd/ssds.

The webcam is the tough one. See pages 3-8 and 3-9. You will need a different screen bezel and screen backing part. The webcam is apparently mounted in the back cover part.

If you really want to do this it seems wasteful but I would buy an entire used screen assembly that includes the webcam.

You can order just the webcam, but without the bezel and screen housing there is no place to mount it and no hole for it to peek out of.

Other options:

bezel only:

Back cover only:

Post back if you need any more assistance.

Re: RAM, HDD and Webcam upgrade

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I dropped the idea of webcam upgrade due to complicacy. I am based in Canada. Can you please provide some links in ebay.ca  for purchasing 2x4GB RAM and a 500GB HDD or suitable SSD?

Thanks

Re: RAM, HDD and Webcam upgrade

Thanks for the RAM link. I am going to order these now.  The budget for SSD could be around $200. Still undecided on HDD vs SSD. Please provide two links for both. Is it possible to install a smaller SSD where I can reinstall my OS with exisiting one (250GB) for data only?

Re: RAM, HDD and Webcam upgrade

There is a way to have 2 hard drives in that model but it involves giving up the DVD drive. There is an "expansion bay" that can hold either an optical drive or a hdd. Post back if you want to pursue 2 drives.

Here is a 750 gig 7200 rpm drive:

Here is the best SSD: a Samsung 850 Evo. The page has links to all sizes; 120 gig to 1 TB:

Re: RAM, HDD and Webcam upgrade

OK. I will go for one option (HDD or SSD). I already ordered for RAM as you suggested. Now I will order for HDD/SDD.

Many Thanks for help.
