Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.

 

HP 15 Laptop PC (Intel)HP 15g Laptop PCHP 15q Laptop PC Maintenance and Service Guide

 

Chapter 1 has the memory upgrade info.

 

Your notebook has two memory slots and supports up to 2 x 8 GB of memory.

 

So, you can install the 4 GB memory chip you bought in the second slot.
