@ESolutions , welcome to the forum.

You actually have two options: 1) install a 2.5" SSD in the HDD bay or 2) install a M.2, SSD, in the socket provided for it.

Here is the Maintenance and Service Guide: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c05228250

On Pages 32 and 33 is a list of compatible hard drives and instructions for removing and replacing them.  Also, on Page 34 is a list of compatible M.2, SSD's, and instruction on removing and replacing them.

These items are in the Authorized Service Provider parts area.  This means unless you have some technical skills it is best to allow a trained Tech to install them.

Here is an example of each type of SSD:

SSD: https://www.newegg.com/samsung-860-evo-series-500gb/p/N82E16820147674?nm_mc=KNC-MSNSearch&cm_mmc=KNC...

M.2. SSD: https://www.newegg.com/samsung-860-evo-series-500gb/p/N82E16820147677?nm_mc=KNC-MSNSearch&cm_mmc=KNC...

The M.2, SSD, is much faster than the SSD.  I suggest using your current 1 TB HDD for storage and buy a 512 GB M.2 for your boot drive.

Here is an article that will explain maximum hard drive size far better than I could: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/troubleshoot/windows-server/backup-and-storage/support-for-hard-dis...
