I need to reset windows on my pavillion laptop - it came with windows preinstalled so how do I go about reinstalling if windows was preinstalled - windows is asking for the recovery media?

According to the product number you posted, you have a HP Pavilion 14-dy0031na PC.

 

You can reinstall Windows by using another PC to make a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall Windows, the drivers and the software that originally came with your PC.

 

Here is an info link for how to use the utility.  You will need a 32 GB USB flash drive for this.

You can download the recovery tool from the Microsoft Store:

Since you have to use the utility on another PC to create the recovery media with, you will need to enter your notebook's 62F23EA#ABU product number in the tool's search window in order to proceed to make the recovery media.
