SIIG USB 3.0 2-PORT EXPRESS CARD 34 INSTALLATION
BACKGROUND:
My HP Pavilion Laptop Computer is an older multimedia model that works really well. It has a 64-bit processor with two cores. It has an Intel P7350 processor. I did two hardware upgrades to the computer. I increased the RAM from 4GB to 8GB. This is the motherboard maximum. I removed one of the two 250GB hard drives and replaced it with a Samsung 850 Pro SSD (With 10-year warranty) a number of years ago. I partitioned the drive. I have the system tri-booting Windows Vista, Window 7, and Windows 10.
Solution: The SIIG user manual indicates that with Windows 8 the driver will automatically load when installing the card. Since Windows 10 is a superset of Windows 8, I was able to get the driver to load automatically in Windows 10. I then plugged in a SIIG external powered 10-port USB 3.0 hub into the SIIG USB 3.0 2-port express card 34 and the drivers loaded from Windows 10 update automatically. I successfully then tried a USB 3.0 thumb drive and it worked. I then tried plugging in an external Seagate 8TB USB 3.0 hard disk drive into the 10-port hub and it also worked. I then used Windows 10 hard disk management to partition the external hard drive into three partitions.
I was able to copy 170 GB of files from my computer’s SSD to the external drive in 58 minutes. When I tried to move the files with a USB 2.0 connection it took 2.5 hours to move only 16% of the files so I stopped that copy. I was able to free up 170 GB on my computer’s SSD. The SIIG Express Card 34 card is very stable on Windows 10.
I also got all devices working in Windows 7. The latest Windows 7 driver is on the SIIG website. This is needed for the installation of the card. The CD that came with the express card had an older version of the driver. The express card also came with an adapter to permit the Express Card 34 (34 MM Wide) to plug into an Express Card 54 slot (54 MM wide expansion port). The Device Manager Tree has no flags or problems in either Windows 10 or Windows 7.
The Windows 7 installation is more sensitive and takes at least an hour to connect all the devices above and get the drivers loaded automatically for Windows Update. The device is a little unstable and occasionally requires uninstalling the driver and then reinstalling the Windows 7 driver and then all the remaining drivers as they are connected one by one.
The above work took about 30 hours of troubleshooting over two weeks and required numerous reboots. I am the original computer user that requested the help. I was able to solve my own computer problems.
Thanks to everyone who helped.
I trust that this explanation and solution will help other computer users.
