HP Pavilion Gaming 15-dk2000 Laptop PC (2P1Z8AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I want to upgrade nvme ssd of my looking at options available and cost analysis, I thought to get a good gen 4 nvme but, I am unsure about the compatibility with my laptop, will it support gen4 drive or should go with gen3 drive only.

What is your HP Pavilion Gaming 15-dk2000 Laptop PC (2P1Z8AV)  machine ? It could be one of the following over 70 machines

           https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/product-specs/hp-pavilion-15.6-inch-gaming-laptop-pc-15-dk2000/...

For example    HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15-dk2056TX

It has  512 GB PCIe® NVMe™ M.2 SSD now. Your machine could have similar drive which is NVMe PCIe G3. You can use Gen 4 NVMe drive BUT it won't run Gen 4 speed.

Thanks for the reply, the exact model is "HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15-dk2100TX" I have 256 GB SSD, because processor does support gen4 pcie so wanted to make sure, I have pre installed gen3 but by any chance as processor does support gen4, so just wanted to make sure by any chance it would support full gen4 speed.

No, you can use Gen 4 and won't gain any speed BUT you can keep for future (new) machines.
