Hello, I have a few technical questions regarding SSD compatibility with my laptop:
Laptop model: HP Omen 17-ck2012nt
SSD model: Samsung 990 Pro 4TB PCIe Gen4 NVMe M.2 (Heatsink-free version)
Will installing this SSD put excessive power or thermal load on the system? Is there any risk of thermal throttling or performance degradation?
Considering the internal thermal management of this laptop, is it acceptable to use the heatsink-free version? Do I need to apply thermal paste or a thermal pad during installation?
I’ve read that the SSD does not include an M.2 screw. What is the exact screw type or specification required for proper installation, and where can I find a compatible one?

Hi:
I would imagine the first question depends on how much of a workload you put on the SSD, so no one can tell you what the results will be.
The notebook supports PCIe Gen 4.0 SSD's and with 'normal use' there should be no issues whatsoever.
The notebook has support for two M.2 NVMe SSD's.
If you look at chapter 5 of the service manual, the SSD is held within a thermal enclosure, so you would have to use a drive without a heatsink.
The existing NVMe SSD has those parts including the hold-down screw.
The empty secondary SSD slot has the screw and the metal enclosure, but you may need to install a thermal pad as the video didn't show the underside of the top of the enclosure the person removed.
