Here is the Manual:

Service Manual

See p. 40-42. There are two hard drive bays. You have a 1 TB 5400 rpm drive in one and the other is empty.

All you need to do is get an SSD. I recommend the Samsung Evo 850:

You need this second bay adapter:

http://www.newmodeus.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_5&products_id=577

Move the old primary hard drive into the second bay and the SSD into the primary bay. This will allow booting from the SSD. You can make a Windows recovery disk and use it to install Windows on the SSD. Post back if any of this is unclear.

Hi,

Thanks so much for helping out the community here. My model (HP ENVY 17-j006ea) came with two hard-drives. I use the primary for windows and programs only and I'd like to replace this with an SSD. I guess the guidelines are the same? Do I need the secondary bay adaptar - or can I use the same parts that are currently used for my main drive?

Thanks very much for your help.
