I have just bought this laptop. All I have done is install Office. My internet speed test is consistently only achieving around 18-25mbps despite it being 130-140mbps on other devices i.e. my phone and my husband's laptop. His laptop has a slightly better processor, also a HP, same memory amount (4GB) but he is still achieving a high speed. Internet is just slow. HP have done troubleshooting steps today including a reset but it is still poor. An ideas please?

Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
If your new HP laptop is experiencing consistently slow internet speeds despite achieving higher speeds on other devices, this could be due to several factors. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:
1. Check Network Settings
- Ensure that your laptop is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network.
- Verify if any different network settings are applied compared to other devices.
2. Update Network Drivers
- Use HP Support Assistant to check and update your network drivers:
- Launch HP Support Assistant by searching for it on the Start menu or clicking the taskbar icon.
- Select "My PC" and go to "Updates" to check for and install any available updates.
- Ensure you run important Windows updates as well.
3. Check Power Settings
- Navigate to Control Panel > Power Options.
- Make sure it is set to "High Performance" and not "Power Saver".
4. Scan for Malware or Viruses
- Perform a full scan using Windows Defender or your preferred antivirus software to ensure no malware is affecting network performance.
5. Disable VPNs or Proxies
- If you are using VPN or proxy services, temporarily disable them to see if they are causing the slowdown.
6. Reset Network Settings
- Open Command Prompt as an administrator and run these commands:
- netsh int ip reset
- netsh winsock reset
- ipconfig /flushdns
- Restart your laptop after running these commands.
7. Check Wi-Fi Configuration
- If you are using 2.4GHz band, try switching to 5GHz band if your router supports it. Some laptops have better performance with 5GHz band due to lower interference.
8. Move Closer to Router
- Physical barriers can affect Wi-Fi performance. Try moving closer to the router to see if the speed improves.
9. Change Roaming Aggressiveness
- Go to Device Manager > Network Adapters, right-click on your Wi-Fi adapter, and select Properties.
- Under the Advanced tab, find the Roaming Aggressiveness setting and set it to a higher value.
I hope this helps.
