Putting an SSD in an optical caddy is not going to get you where you think it will. The caddy will only allow the drive to operate at a crippled speed and on most models you cannot boot from a drive in the optical bay. But you can replace the DVD drive with such a caddy with no effect on the warranty. You can also put an SSD inside the laptop and not void the warranty.
