Static noise coming from my HP ENVY x360 m6 Convertible

[ Edited ]
Product Name: HP ENVY x360 m6 Convertible
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

So, back about a month ago, I purchased an HP Envy x360 from Best Buy. Now I thought the laptop was great and all and it works perfectly fine. However, after moving away to college, I noticed in my dorm that when my room was quiet, I could hear this static/scratching noise coming from the upper right hand corner of my laptop keyboard. Now, at first, I sort of dismissed this and I found this out well past the return policy date for Best Buy. However, this noise eventually started to get really annoying. It constantly disrupts me while I am studying and honestly, for an $800 laptop, I expected something that didn't make a sound like this. Nonetheless, I have tried everything in terms of updating BIOS and drivers and that has lead me to zero success. I am assuming the noise is coming from the hard disk of the laptop although I am not entirely sure. As of right now, I cannot send my laptop in for repair because I need it for school work and having it gone for 7-9 days may be a bit of a problem for me at this time. Is there any alternative ways I could try to solve this issue? And is there any possible explanation as to why my laptop is making this annoying noise? Thank you!

Hi! @DoubleDubs,  Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums!

I understand that you are getting static noise from your laptop.

Please update BIOS and chipset drivers from the link below and see if this takes care of the issue.

@MrRobot

Updated both the BIOS and the driver for the chipset and the static/scratching noise continues to persist. I ran an extensive system test overnight and all the notebook passed all the tests. I am unsure of what else I can do to fix this.

Re: Static noise coming from my HP ENVY x360 m6 Convertible

Hi @MrRobot

So, I think I'm tech savvy enough to be able to open the laptop and reseat the hard drive. However, just a couple questions. I've worked with PC hardware a lot but not so much with laptops. How difficult do you think it would be? And, would doing this void my warranty in any way? Thank you!

Re: Static noise coming from my HP ENVY x360 m6 Convertible

@DoubleDubs, thanks for the reply.

I have sent you the document to replace the hard drive. In the previous post, please refer to page number 30.

You can follow the document and try removing the hard drive.

Hard drives usually are a customer-replaceable part. They should not be much difficult to remove.

However, if you feel you are really uncomfortable doing this then please contact HP for service options.

Keep me updated!

Cheers!:)

@MrRobot

Thank you for your fast replies!

One last question. My warranty is voided by this correct?

Hi! @DoubleDubs, No, the warranty will not void until there is any accidental damage on your computer.

Let me know if you have any other queries!

Cheers! Happy Weekend! :)
