The system no longer warns me that the batery nned charging

It just switches off without warning.  This started about 2 months ago.

 

Can anyone help?

Welcome to HP support community.

 

Does the computer shuts down right after disconnecting the AC adapter?

If yes, then this could be an issue with the battery.

If it works when you disconnect, then follow the below steps:

Uninstall the battery drivers

  1. Press Windows Key + X to open Win + X menu. ...
  2. Now click Batteries in the Device Manager window.
  3. Next, you should right-click Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and select Uninstall from the context menu.
  4. Click Uninstall to confirm.

Update BIOS and Battery drivers using HP support assistant.
