Hi @JayWila,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP laptop's touchpad has stopped working and you're unable to shut it down using the standard methods, here are a few solutions.

Use Keyboard Shortcuts to Shut Down:

You can try using your keyboard to shut down the laptop:

  • Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete at the same time.
  • Use the Tab key to navigate to the power icon in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
  • Press Enter to open the power menu, and then use the arrow keys to highlight Shut down and press Enter.

Use the Power Button:

If keyboard shortcuts don't work, you can hold down the Power button on the laptop for about 5-10 seconds. This will force the laptop to shut down. Once it's off, wait a few seconds, then turn it back on to see if the touchpad starts working again.

External Mouse (if available):

If you have a USB or Bluetooth mouse available, you can connect it and use that to navigate and shut down the laptop.

Hard Reset:

If the touchpad issue persists after restarting:

  • Turn off the laptop.
  • Disconnect any external devices (USBs, external hard drives, etc.).
  • Unplug the power adapter and remove the battery (if removable).
  • Hold the Power button for 15-20 seconds to drain any remaining power.
  • Reconnect the battery and power, then start the laptop again.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
