I have a number of accessories for my telescope that get powered by a 3.0 powered USB Hub. They have functioned fine for several years on my old Dell laptop. I just purchased an Envy laptop from HP. Most of the devices work fine but a few do not as they start to work and then freeze. I have explored all other possible causes and contacted the manufacturers but no reason can be found. The only thing left to explore are any differences between the two laptops that both use Windows 10, 64-bit. All drivers are updated and are the same as well as Windows. I noticed only one difference. The older Dell uses a USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller but the HP uses USB 3.1. I realize it should be backwards compatible but clearly that is not the case for everything. The odd thing I did discover is that if I replace the USB 3.0 cable from the hub to the laptop with a USB 2.0 cable, everything works. Yet, if I try any new USB 3.0 cable some accessories to not run. I am not a computer guru. Can someone explain this to me and how to fix it?
