https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c04797004  says that there is one USB 3.0 port on this laptop, but all three ports are grey with 4 contacts. There is a USB 3.0 controller in the control panel device manager, but I don't know if it is internal or external.  Is the HP specification wrong?  Are there different versions of this laptop over time?  If not where is the USB 3.0 port on this laptop?

Thanks, Paul, for the info and for the manual.  The left side port layout on my laptop matches the figure, but the port indicated as USB 3.0 on the figure does not have the blue tab or the 5 contacts of a USB 3.0 port. I have a sneaking suspicion that the older versions of this model might be a little different.  I'll have to do some speed tests to see if there is any difference between that and the other ports.   -  Bill

You're very welcome, Bill.

It should be USB 3 since your notebook has a USB 3 controller listed in the device manager
