My computer slid off a chair onto a carpeted floor. It appears neither the USB or HDMI ports are working. I have tried plugging different devices into each port and the computer does not recognize them. I have rebooted the computer. Everything else is fine and there is no visible damage to the device. Is there a way to confirm if the port is operable or not?

I reviewed your post and I understand that the USB and HDMI port on the computer is not working.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

As you have mentioned that you have checked with multiple devices and the ports are not working that would confirm a hardware failure. However, you can run a test on the USB and HDMI port following the steps in the below article to confirm.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

Thanks for the feedback. I have installed the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Window 1.6.7.0. It does not support testing of USB ports, or at least on my laptop it does not. I purchased this in October 2020. I did get an adapter for the USB 3.1 ports. I can confirm both of these ports operate as expected. I went into Device Manager and opened Human Device Interface. When plugged into the USB 3.1 port, I can see my Logitech USB Input Device and it is working. When I unplug the Logitech USB it disappears from the list as you would expect. When I plug it into the USB 2.0 slot, the device does not reappear. Same if I plug it into the HDMI port using an adapter. Then when I plug it back into the USB 3.1 port, the device shows on the list and is working. Further down in Device Manager, there is Universal Serial Bus Controllers. This lists 6 devices in total. 4 appear to be related to USB 3.1. Two are simply labelled USB composite root hub. All are listed as working properly and the driver is up to date. The two composite root hubs are shown as Port_#0006, Hub_#0001 and Port_#0002,Hub#0001. I disabled and reenabled both to see if I would make any difference. I did not. I did not uninstall because I do not know the consequences of doing that. The next item under Device Manager is USB Connection Managers. Under this is listed one device labelled as UCM-UCSI ACPI device. The dialog box says this component is working properly. So, at this point, I don't know what else to look for. Any further advice would be appreciated.
