What is the maximum size of 2.5" SSD my ZBook 17 G6 can take? When I transferred a 4TB SSD into my 6 month old notebook it crashed with a BSOD.

@cashmere477

That's most likely because a 2TB drive is generally formatted MBR, while a 4TB drive must be formatted GPT, and the second requires the PC to be using UEFI mode, not BIOS mode.  So the two are not interchangeable.

Thanks WAWood.

1) I would think that my ZBook 17 G6 would accept both partition formats and allow me to change a drive from  MBR to GPT.

Why than would the system crash with an unrecoverable BSOD after I mount the 4TB SSD drive?

2) What will be the situation if I mount the 4TB in an Elitebook 8770?
