OMEN Laptop - 15-en0004nu

Hello!

I want to upgrade my Laptop HP Omen 15 en0004nu currently with 16 GB RAM SODIMM DDR4 3200MHz  to 32 GB.
It has two slots on the motherboard, the current ones are with 2x8gb.

My question is what Mhz frequency should I use to upgrade (2x16 on 3200Mhz or 2x16 on 2600Mhz)? Should it be the same brand as well?

I read a lot and I'm not quite sure why everywhere it says that it won't support 2x16 GB on 3200mhz (but 2600mhz, should be no issue) since currently it's supported by 2x8 GB 3200mz. Can someone bring a bit of light into this, I'm not quite the hardware expert. Thank you, guys!

Hi:

The specs for your notebook and the service manual indicate the notebook was designed to run DDR4-3200 memory.

OMEN Laptop 15-en0004nu Product Specifications | HP® Customer Support

Maintenance and Service Guide (hp.com)

Here's the possible outcomes if you install DDR4-2666 MHz memory.

Best case scenario...the processor runs the memory at around 83% of what it was designed to run at.

Worst case scenario...the notebook will not boot up at all with the slower memory.

Why install 32 GB of DDR4-2666 MHz memory if the performance will probably worse than it is now?

@Vermillionn,

Welcome to our HP User Forum!

Your OMEN Laptop - 15-ek0004nu (1R7E0EA) according to various sources such as: https://www.crucial.com/compatible-upgrade-for/hp---compaq/hp-omen-15-ek0004nu, could be fitted with up to 2 x 32GB of DDR4 PC4-25600, 3200 MHz, Non-ECC, Unbuffered, SODIMM, 260-pin RAM sticks.

According to your laptop's specs: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c06638089.pdf, the RAM will down throttle to 2933 MHz:

Thank you so much for your valuable responses! The correct product number would be 1R7E5EA with AMD Ryzen 7 4800 but I guess  it would run the same way.

You're very.

The processor your notebook has runs DDR4-3200 at 3200 MHz.

You don't want to install slower memory than that.
