Upgrade hardrive on HP-Laptop 15 db0xxx

So recently my HDD failed on my db0xxx, i was wondering what hardrive it takes. i saw this post https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/What-is-able-to-be-upgraded-in... which lead me to this manual http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c06510442 but while i did see my laptop on the manual (Ryzen 5 3500 mobile, Vega 8 mobile) it didn't show what hardrive it has it only shows SSD and that wouldn't be an issue if it accepted 1tb but its max is 512gb while the hardrive that came stock with mine held 1tb. I really need that storage as I store all my PC games on that laptop and it roughly takes up a good 600gb for my library of steam games and all my other files.

If you are currently using an SSD, this being a new PC, it could very likely be using an M.2 SSD, maybe even an NVMe SSD -- and if the latter is the case, given the performance of those is several times faster than any HDD, doing this swap will bring your PC to a CRAWL!  This is not something I would do, even though you need more storage space.

Yea but it came stock with a 1tb hardrive and I really just want the space I don’t really care for the speed because like I’ll wait 1 extra second for a HHD to load compared to a SSD. It was fast not slow at all. Applications where fast to boot so it doesn’t really effect me.

for me a HHD is slower but it’s worth the space. It doesn’t really bring my pc to a crawl. Like I’m fine waiting 5-10 seconds to boot something. It’s not like I’m running a heavy application this is just a Vega 8 after all and all the heavy lifting is being done by the Ryzen so Im not going to be running anything really graphically intense

Which is much different than the manual you came up with. From the one I found:

Page 2 shows it can be either single or dual primary storage. Yours might have only the SATA 2.5" installed. You can replace that with a HDD or SSD.

There should be a place on the board for an M.2 stick and just because it shows the biggest NVMe or SATA-3 is 256 doesn't mean the computer can't address more space. It appears to mean that those are the possibilities from the factory when this manual was written.

Back to the manual you found. It does not show  the possibility of having a HDD, just a Solid State Drive in an M.2 slot.

Maybe compare what is depicted in each manual to what you actually have in front of you and see which is closer. If yours came with a 1TB HDD (does it sound like a mechanical spinning drive?) then that manual you found is suspect.

Even if both manuals are the wrong one, you can replace a 1TB SATA drive with that size or even larger if you like. At the worst you might have to open the back cover and see what you have.

TY this helped out so much. I guess i was looking at the wrong manual. Ill take your word for it. It does sound like a mechanical spinning hardrive so ik it is. Ty so much for your help now ik what hardrives my pc takes
