I want to upgrade my laptop ram to 8gb or more. Currently it is 4 gb. Can i upgrade it and what points should i consider before upgrading it.

Thanks your reply was helpful and I upgraded it to 12 GB ram from 4GB by adding extra 8GB

Someday, you may want to remove the 4 GB chip and replace it with an 8 GB chip so the memory runs in the better performing dual data rate mode DDR), as well as having 4 more GB.

 

Installing memory in matching capacities (2 x 4 GB, 2 x 8 GB)), allows the memory to run in DDR mode.

 

With 12 GB, the memory is running in the lower performing single data rate mode.

 

When a memory slot is empty, the memory also runs in the single data rate mode.
