HP Probook 650 G1
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I am trying to find out if there is support available for a CPU that I would like to install in my laptop. I have a HP Probook 650 G1 that came with a I5-4200mq. I am wanting to put a I7-4810mq CPU in it to speed it up and allow for CAD and Video/music editing. I know it's a big jump, and that it goes up to a 47w CPU. But, is there any support for the chip? Will it work properly? Will it damage the board from over powering it? I understand that I will sacrifice battery life, that's not an issue. I just don't want to damage a 6 month old laptop.

I have read the download info. The processor I want to use isn't listed. Does that mean I can't use it? I'm not replacing it myself, having it replaced by a tech. My question is can I use it without damaging my computer. Going from the duel core to the quad core with a higher wattage. It does list a I7-47** series processor but says with 14" monitor only. Does that mean I can't use it with the 15.6" monitor? The tech told me that as long as they have a g3 socket that I should be able to use it and the increase in wattage shouldn't be a big issue as long as I don't overheat the chip. The chip has thermal monitoring built in so I can monitor the temp.  Not being a computer designer, these questions I can't answer. With the cost of this laptop, I don't want to damage it. Using the tech's advise, I did purchase the CPU, which wasn't cheap, but I don't want it put in if it's going to hurt the laptop. Still confused after reading repair manual that was referenced.

The screen is regardless of which processor is compatible or not, you should know the chipset of your motherboard or in your case the socket of the CPU, another thing is that models with 14-inch screen use different chpiset, which is not your Case, You should know that an I7 overheats much more than an I5, unless you require it to play games, I would stay with the one that has .. it is possible that your heatsink q is not prepared for optimum fluid and consumption of the Battery is higher.

Hi,

HP use different boards for quad and dual core processors. I have checked the manual there are two sets of HM/QM87 motherboards which might suggest that there are different boards for quad and dual core processors like on other HP laptops.

Asus ROG STRIX G16 Manjaro Xfce
