Pavilion G4-2275DX
Microsoft Windows 8 (64-bit)

I am looking to upgrade my Pavilion G4-2275DX laptop from the Dual Core AMD A6-4400m CPU to a Quad Core A10-7860K.

Are these compatible? If not can you recommend another quad core CPU that is?

Do I need to change the RAM? I am planning to move to 8Gig RAM, just need to know if the type changes.

Thanks for your help.

No you cannot upgrade an A6-4xxx to an A10-7xxx series. But you can upgrade to an

AMD A10-4600M processor (3.2 GHz/2.3 GHz, 1600 MHz/4.0 MB L2 cache, DDR3, quad core, 35W)

Here is the Service Manual:

Manual

This is a drop in replacement. The motherboard, memory, etc. would stay the same. It would still use DDR3-1600 memory.

Here is the processor for sale on eBay:

The AMD processors are not a high demand item so are not too expensive. The upgrade you propose would be very noticeable. It is not easy, however. If you have any questions, post back.

Very helpful. I plan to have a local computer repair company install it for $75. The install looks fairly complex so I'll leave it to the experts.

Thanks for your help.

Sorry, one last question. What is the max RAM I can install? 8G? 16G?

Thanks for your help!

And what speed for the RAM?

Never mind, I see from the manual you sent me I can upgrade to max 8G at 1600Mhz.
