HP ENVY Sleekbook 4-1000en
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Hello,

Since I have some basic computer knowledge but I want to be sure before going for it, I need your advice.

I own a HP ENVY Sleekbook 4-1000en and I recently upgraded hard drive and OS.

I am thinking of upgrading RAM as well, as far as I know you need 2 memories of the same type so I guess I can’t just buy another 4 GB one right?

Do I need 2 x 4 GB DDR3 of the same type to make it work? For example would these ones work fine

http://www.corsair.com/en/vengeance-8gb-high-performance-sodimm-memory-upgrade-kit-cmsx8gx3m2a1600c9 ?

Lastly does upgrading memory require any other configurations after plugin them in? Is a format required for example?

Thanks for your time.

Hi,

The following link shows specs of your computer:

     http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03362810

It has 4GB of RAM now. The question is 4GB in one slot or in two slots (2+2).

(a) If in one slot you can simply buy another 4GB with SAME part/specs of the EXISTING RAM and install to the second slot.

(b) If in 2 slots (ie 2+2) you have to throw out both and buy 2 new sticks 4GB each. Agin use same specs.

You don't need to format RAM. By the way, we only format HDD/SSD but not RAM. And yes, RAM in both slots must be same specs even same brand to be able to get full benefits.

Regards.
