I want to place a 1 GB RAM module with a 4GB.  The 4GB module arrived with a note to ensure that the BIOS is updated before replacing the module.  This laptop had the OS updated to Windows 10 but the HP drivers and software update does not support anything past Windows 8, so I do not know how to check if I need to upgrade the BIOS and then how would I do that if needed.  Any thoughts or experience with this issue?  I certainly welcome any other thoughts about how best to conduct this upgrade.  Thanks.

@KB561

My suggestion: use the latest BIOS for Windows 8 from its support page. I believe it has 3GB now (1GB + 2GB) and it support up to 8GB.

Hope this helps.

Regards.

Hello Banhien,

Thank you for your advice.  I tried to the route of Windows 8 but the HP software download page stated there were no updates for this model.  I went ahead and installed the 4GB RAM.  As near as I can tell, the computer is working fine.  I will certainly monitor it for the next while.  I probably have not had the right conditions to test the response time yet but am hoping that by effectively doubling the RAM that I will notice an improvement.  Thank you again.

Best regards,
