Hi Paul,

I am using this link to get info on the below mentioned laptop but I'm not seeing anything about the memory amount and upgradability - more of a support page I guess. - How can I find the manual for this laptop? Could you find a link for me, would be most appreciated!

I have this 17.3" HP Pavilion laptop g7 Notebook PC Product  Number:  C3Q78UA#ABA - G7-2233CL

It currently has 6 GB DDR3 SDRAM (2 DIMM).

My manual says this laptop is capable of 8 GBs of RAM

I could get the following RAM kit from Crucial that should be compatible.

8GBKit (2x4 GB) DDR3L - 1600 SODIMM

Someone from another tech site suggested I find out what the fastest speed in (Mhz) that I could get that this machine would be able to handle (not sure if this is really that important) but I don't know how to get that info.

Any thoughts on this?  If I'm going to add memory I guess I should try to go for the fastest speed, I guess. Crucial doesn't offer the speed of the ram in Mhz..

Thanks Larry

Hi, Larry:

Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook.

The memory upgrade info can be found in chapter 1.

2 x 4 GB of PC3-12800 (1600 MHz) memory is supported.

You really only to remove the 2 GB chip, and install a 4 GB chip in its place.

Here is the crucial memory report for your model.

Hi Paul,

I am interested in purchasing a memory module directly from HP.  The part description is: 4GB (DDR3-1600 MHz, PC3-12800)

The part number is:  641369001

If needed, I also have the Laptops description:  HP Pavilion g7-2233cl Notebook PC

I also have the Serial Number ( I guess this is a number that I probably shouldn't disclose over the Internet though, right?)

I also have the Product number as well.

I used to have a URL to a HP parts ordering page but I can no longer find it. I remember it had a box to type in the part number and the part could be ordered directly from that page. - maybe you could provide that link ?

Also, probably the dumbest question you have received lately:  Before I order the above described part from HP, is there anyway to price it first? I'm guessing I must call them directly to get that info, right?  If so, do you have a phone number to call directly to the parts ordering department of HP?

Sorry to be such a pest 😄

Hi, Larry:

I don't think you want to buy it from HP.

For one thing it is on back order, and for another thing, it is ridiculously expensive at $101.61

I suggest that you google the HP part number and perhaps find one on Amazon or eBay for a whole lot less.

You need to put a hyphen between the 9 and the 001.

641369-001

Thanks for the advice. Will see what I can round-up,

I found one for $27.31 at a company called Memory for less. Will order one from them.
