Since HDDs do not make a whirring sound, I have to presume this is the fan making noise -- and with a Win10 PC, this is to be expected.
Windows Update runs in the background and every week, MS puts out updates -- and when your PC finds them, it will download and install them automatically, without your permission or knowledge, and when it does that, it can lock up the processor at 100% and the disk usage at 100% -- and this will cause the fan to spin up until it is done.
