So I did my first post last night about a problem I had and the help was so quick and very helpful that I figure I will try my luck on this not sure if it is something I would do depends on the pricing and so on.
So the above hp notebook I have had for about 10+ yrs was my dad’s and I ended up using it and it became mine. I was able to upgrade to windows 10 home from my windows 7 home premium that I had and it is great but the notebook is a bit slow which is understandable.
I would like to make it faster if that is possible so I was thinking of changing the memory not sure how much I have presently installed but I would like the max install and changing the hard drive to an SDD if that is possible which I have no idea or just a fast hard drive if the SSD option is not possible.
I am pretty sure I can do whatever it is on my own just would like some advice from others who is way more knowledgeable than me on this subject. On probably what I can buy and hopefully it is not super expensive cause then I might not do it.
Thank You all again.

Hi:
Your notebook supports a max of 2 x 8 GB of DDR3 memory.
This should be a compatible 8 GB memory chip for your notebook.
Crucial 8GB DDR3L-1600 SODIMM | CT102464BF160B | Crucial.com
You should be able to replace the 2.5" mechanical hard drive with a 2.5" solid state drive (SSD).
The WD Blue SSD's provide the best performance for the price in my opinion.
Below is the link to the service manual where you can find the memory upgrade info/replacement and the hard drive removal and replacement procedures.

You're very welcome.
You didn't mention how much storage capacity you need, but a 500 GB WD Blue SSD is not that expensive.

Hey Paul so I think I will do this, I am sure this probably is possible but I don’t how to do it and if I need to purchase any cable or anything so figure I ask before I order the ssd and memory. Can I transfer all my files and everything else I have on the old hard drive to the ssd and then install it? Or will I have to redownload back my windows 10 and everything else I have presently to the new ssd?

Hi:
If you want to move everything from the existing drive to the new one, you can buy a SATA to USB cable like this...
...plug one end into the new SSD and the other end into one of your notebook's USB 3 ports.
Download and install the free Macrium Reflect software which you can use to clone the existing drive configuration to the new SSD.
You want the software on the left side of the page under the Backup at Home section.
Macrium Software | Reflect Free Edition
You can also use the software to periodically create a system image you can save onto a portable hard drive, and it will have you create a bootable rescue DVD or USB flash drive you boot from to access the system image you stored on the portable hard drive.
Or yes, you can also clean install W10 on the new SSD and reinstall all of your programs and files.
