I purchased an Omen gaming laptop and want to upgrade the HDD.  It currently has a smaller M.2 ssd but due to its size, I've had to continuously maintain an external HDD to support all the applications and data that I use on a regular basis.  I came across another support answer here on hp.com and wanted to verify it's accuracy before upgrading.

Can you please verify that so long as nothing is damaged in the process, upgrading the SSD will not void my warranty?  I'm very experienced in laptop/desktop hardware repair & building desktop pc's, so I have no worries about damaging the laptop.

Warranty is a grey/gray area very hard to say in concrete Yes or No. For new generation machines, adding something is a work for Authorized Service Provider parts . You can add yourself. If something went wrong due to this upgrade, I think HP would not honor warranty.

Hope this makes sense.

Regards.

Hi, @1337_Spam_Bot

Below is the link to the service manual for the model series.

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c06219881

Chapter 1 page 12 has a table of customer-authorized work.

Serviceability End-user replaceable parts:
AC adapter
Memory
Hard drive
Solid-state drive

But take note of this statement in the beginning of chapter 5...

NOTE: The Customer Self-Repair program is not available in all locations. Installing a part not supported by
the Customer Self-Repair program may void your warranty. Check your warranty to determine if Customer
Self-Repair is supported in your location.

Since this is a peer to peer forum, no one here is authorized to reply on behalf of HP regarding any warranty terms and conditions.

If you want an official response from HP regarding the impact of the warranty if you replace/upgrade a hard drive or SSD, I recommend that you contact the HP executive team at the link below.
