compaq 6710b

I have an hp compaq 6710b laptop.

I opened my laptop and my processor on the bottom looks like this:

yxJGecZ

and front looks like this:

arg5J6f

I've googled my same question and this thread comes up: they said the t7700

however, I went on ebay to try and buy it, but the bottom of that cpu dosnt look like mine. So will it be compatible? and if not, what is the fastest cpu I can have on my 6710b

Here's the problem...

HP removed all the specs sheets that showed that the T8100, T8300, T9300 and T9500 worked in the HP 6910p, 8510p and 6710b notebooks.

The fact that the one person installed one in his 6710b on that forum post I linked you, to proves that the T9500 works.

If you look at the side by side comparison of the T7700 and the T9500, they are very similar in specs.

https://ark.intel.com/compare/33918,29762

I tried to find a remaining link that shows the list of processors beyond the T7700, but I can't find any.

But here are forum posts that show these processors work in notebooks with the same chipset as yours...

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Upgrade-Processor-HP-Pavilion-...

And you can see on this post where I had copied and pasted the complete list of supported processors from the link that no longer works anymore...

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebooks-Archive-Read-Only/cpu-upgrade/td-p/1300281

The 6510b is the same model as yours with a smaller display.

I could not find any supporting info that indicates the X7800 would work.  It might. It might not.

The T9500 does.

Hi:

If you look at this forum post, a person installed the T9500 in his 6710b...

https://forums.overclockers.com.au/threads/hp-6710b-upgrading-cpu-hdd.821899/

While the official specs state the T7700 is the max, if you have the latest BIOS installed, you probably can install the T9500.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-Core-2-Duo-T9500-2-60GHz-6M-800MHz-SLAYX-CPU-Dual-Core-Processor/1316...

You can only install a processor with an 800 MHz FSB, which the T9500 has.

The ones with the 1066 MHz FSB's will not work in your PC.

so the t9500 like you said is the best one I can upgrade to?

my concern is that, as you can see in my current cpu as pictured here:

i.imgur.com/8T90eN5.jpg

the bottom dosnt look the same as the linked ebay listing you have/processor you stated.

Mine has 2 pins on the left and right, where as the ebay one has 4 pins on the left and right and also the center looks different

I don't think that matters.

You line up the triangle on the processor and the motherboard, and it drops right in.

Ok thanks.... One last thing... Would this one fit?

https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F192352378813

Ive asked another person and they said this is the best possible price to performance rario I can get. He said it has to be socket p, 800mhz, and it'll work.

So I just want your confirm before I buy this one... Which is actually much better than the t9500 above

T7700.

The Core 2 Duo T7300 (Socket P) is based on Merom core, and it fits into Socket P.

It has the same Watts and Stepping.

T9500

The T9500 is a Socket P CPU, based on Penryn core.

I googled around and saw your same exact thread linked

Anyway thanks... your last 2 lines sums up about everything I need.

So the T9500 works for sure, the T7700 also works, and the X7800 might work.

Ok, thanks a lot.. I'll see what I can do now and will report back (if I remember) when the processor arrive which could be a week or two from now.

Thanks again.
