Pavillion 17 e016dx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Would like to find out the maximum amount of memory that can be installed on a Pavillion 17 e016dx.  Current configuration is one (1) 4GB stick in one (1) of the two (2) available slots.  Ideally looking to install an 8GB stick in 2nd slot if board can handle it.  Can not find any conclusive documentation to answer question.  Latest DL of HP Support Assistant is useless.  Any verifiable response appreciated - Thanx!

The official specs say maximum 8 gigs:

https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03943159

But the Service manual says maximum 12 gigs:

Manual

I am going with the Service manual and based on past experience we know that on models that say 12 gigs they will actually support 16 gigs 2 x 8 since motherboards never max out with an odd amount of memory...always the max sized single module times the number of slots.

"How to" on p. 54. I recommend a matched pair of the same size and speed so you get dual channel operation which is a bit faster. For most people 2 x 4 works as well as 4 + 8.

Specified 8 gig module:

8 GB (PC3L, 12800, 1600 MHz) 693374-001

Hi there.  Apologies on the delay & thank you for your response.  Actually, I have come to find that the maxiumum amount of RAM for this particular model appears to be 16 GB as I just installed an 8 GB stick successfully, bringing the level up to 12 GB.

Anything would have been an improvement trying to work with what I had before.  Thanx again!

Hello Huffer,

Thank you for your response & my apologies on the delay.  I did indeed successfully install an 8 GB stick into my system & am very happy to say I'm currently running at 12 GB.  It has certainly made a difference in how my laptop functions.

My appreciations for your response & encouragement.  Take Care & Be Well.
