HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi there,

I have been using HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC for as long as 6 years and now I find this device way much slower than any other devices in the market. So, I am considering of upgrading some specific parts like ram, hdd. Definately my question is what would be best for that upgrade? I litterally contemplating to add an hybrid drive (2TB) ... [firecuda]...let me know if my calculation were right for such upgradation. Thanks

OK. Your model is the  HP Pavilion dv6-7024tx Entertainment Notebook PC.

A the moment you have the 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5-3210M CPU, you could upgrade to one of these more powerfull CPUs. You can see on page 82 of service manual and steps to upgrade:

Intel Core i7-3820QM 2.70-GHz processor (8.0-MB L3 cache, 45 W)               681284-001

Intel Core i7-3720QM 2.60-GHz processor (6.0-MB L3 cache, 45 W)               681283-001

Intel Core i7-3612QM 2.10-GHz processor (6.0-MB L3 cache, 35 W)               680647-001

Intel Core i7-3610QM 2.30-GHz processor (6.0-MB L3 cache, 45 W)               680646-001

At the moment you have 4GB of DDR3 1600Mhz RAM. You can upgrade to max. 16 GB of DDR3 1600Mhz RAM (2x8GB) You can see various configurations and steps to upgrade RAM on page 4 and 51 of service manual.

At the moment you have Hard drive 750 GB SATA (5400 rpm). You can replace with Seagate Firecuda without any problems. The best would be to replace wwith a 2.5" SSD which would give most performance. Such as the Samsung 850 evo. On page 47 of service manual you can see how to replace drive.

You will need to reinstall Windows 10 on the hard drive by either using HP recovery disks, migrating an image or donloading media creation tool from Microsoft, running and creating a bootable pendrive with OS on it. (before replacing drive). Windows 10 will automatically activate once installed and connected to internet.

DV6 has been around since about 2007 and covers about 6 or 7 generations with vastly different hardware in each so unless you can be more specific there is no help to be provided to you.

What exactly would you like to know is unknown to me or i cannot understand. I am running a HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC and what i have found from service manual that it may have an attached ssd drive inside, this is really so perplexing. I litterally cannot believe this, Is there really two different hard drive attached inside (one is ssd and another is HDD/normal)?

Hi,

There is a label on the back of your computer or under the battery ( battery bay ). On this label is written Product or Product #  with letters and numbers after. This is what we want to know to further help you.
