Hello,

I have a Victus by HP Gaming Laptop 15-fa0000
Product number: 68U87UA#ABA

My laptop currently uses the MediaTek MT7921 Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) PCIe adapter.
This card is installed in a standard M.2 2230 Key-E slot, which should also support modern Wi-Fi cards.

I want to upgrade my laptop to Wi-Fi 7 and I am considering installing a card such as the Intel BE200 or another Wi-Fi 7 M.2 2230 module.

My concerns / questions:

  1. Does the BIOS of the Victus 15-fa0000 have a WLAN whitelist?
I have seen reports from some Victus users saying that replacement WLAN cards were not recognized by the system (Bluetooth only, Wi-Fi not detected). I want to know if the fa0000 series is restricted to HP-approved cards only.

  2. Is the Intel BE200 (or any Wi-Fi 7 M.2 2230 Key-E card) officially supported by this model?

  3. If there is a whitelist, what Wi-Fi cards are officially allowed for the 15-fa0000 (68U87UA#ABA)?

  4. Is there an HP-branded Wi-Fi 7 module available or planned that would be compatible with this model?

Why I’m asking:

Physically, the laptop supports M.2 2230 Key-E WLAN modules.
However, due to possible BIOS restrictions, I want to confirm compatibility before purchasing a Wi-Fi 7 card.

Any official confirmation or feedback from other Victus 15-fa0000 owners who upgraded their Wi-Fi modules would be very helpful.

Thank you!

Hi:

Below is the link to the service manual for your notebook's model series.

Maintenance and Service Guide

Chapter 3 has the two supported WLAN cards offered in the model series.

The AX211 would probably not work because that is a CNVI card and those usually only work as a replacement if the notebook originally came with one.

HP does not publish any info on what notebooks may or may not have a BIOS whitelist.

The only way we find out what works and what doesn't is from folks posting the results of wifi card upgrade projects.

I cannot find any info where someone has installed a Wi-Fi 7 card in that model series, so the only guidance I can provide to you to reduce the chance of failure would be to experiment with this model Wi-Fi 7 card with the following HP part number/Intel SPS number:

Intel BE200 M.2 2230 Wi-Fi 7 + Bluetooth 5.4 non-vPro WW WLAN module   HP part # Intel SPS # N39883-005
