HP Envy 17-J141NA
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I’m trying to determine if my machine is compatible with a m2 nvme drive, as I have found what appears to be the correct socket on the mother board (see image attached) but the screw socket to secure the drive is unexpected.

Hi:

What you see there is a mSATA slot.

Your notebook does not support M.2 SATA or NVMe SSD's.

It would be easier and probably cheaper to replace the 2.5" mechanical hard drive with a 2.5" SATA SSD.

Below is the link to the service manual.  Chapter 1 has the supported drive types.

c04091762.pdf (hp.com)

Solid-state drive Only configured with system memory up to 8 GB:
● 32-GB mSATA (select models only)
● 24-GB mSATA (select models only)

I believe those drives can only be used to accelerate the 2.5" drive.
