There is a lightning bolt icon next to the USB-C SuperSpeed port on my HP Pavilion 15 Laptop PC 15-eg0015cl. Does that mean it is compatible with Thunderbolt devices? If not, will the motherboard (HP 87CB 34.29) support adding support for Thunderbolt?

The lightning bolt means the port is capable of powering and charging external devices. That is called USB Poewr Delivery.

 

YOur external ports from the specifications document.

1 SuperSpeed USB Type-C® 10Gbps signaling rate (USB Power Delivery, DisplayPort™ 1.4, HP Sleep and Charge); 2 SuperSpeed USB Type-A 5Gbps signaling rate; 1 HDMI 2.0; 1 AC smart pin; 1 headphone/microphone combo
