Hi, I recently bought a HP Pavilion 14-dk0850no, which does not have a backlit keyboard. Though on eBay I found someone selling a keyboard replacement that's advertised to have a backlight, and the title only says "14-dk0000", which should mean it's not for a specific model, but rather for a series of laptops. Would this work? And if so, would the button for configuring the backlight also work?

Hi @domnik968,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your PC!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Motherboard Compatibility:

  • Check if your laptop's motherboard has the necessary connector for a backlit keyboard. Some laptops that do not come with backlit keyboards may lack the connectors required to power and control the backlight.

BIOS Support:

  • Confirm whether the BIOS version installed on your laptop supports a backlit keyboard. If the BIOS doesn’t support it, the backlighting feature may not work properly.

Physical Fit:

  • Ensure the replacement keyboard physically fits your specific laptop model. Variations in keyboard layout or size could affect compatibility.

Keyboard Connector:

  • Verify that the keyboard connector on your laptop matches the connector on the replacement backlit keyboard. Some models within the same series might have different connectors.

Key Functionality:

  • Even if the hardware allows for the installation of a backlit keyboard, the function key to control the backlighting needs to be supported at the firmware level on your laptop.

I hope this helps.
