HP Notebook - 15-da0997na
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I recently replaced the HDD to an SSD and updated the OS to Windows 20H2 on HP Notebook - 15-da0997na

Checking the Device Manager I find that there is a yellow exclamation mark for System Firmware.

What may have caused the yellow exclamation mark to appear next to the System Firmware?

Should I be worried about this or can I just ignore it?

See screenshots below of the System Firmware Properties;

Thank you for posting on HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help,
When you see a yellow exclamation mark under Other devices, that indicates drivers are not installed properly.

If you have any issues with devices then you may want to update drivers:

Firstly, perform Windows Update and HP Support Assistant:

To check for updates now, select the Start button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update, and select Check for updates.

Install updates from HP Support Assistant: Go to Download HP Support Assistant to install the tool.

  1. To open HP Support Assistant, double-click the HP Support Assistant icon https://support.hp.com/doc-images/932/c05040382.jpg.
  2. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
  3. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
  4. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
  5. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
  6. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

@Echo_Lake

Thanks for your response.

It is difficult for me to access the laptop as it does not belong to me but to a teacher who is now back at work and using the laptop!

Firstly I do not know what System Firmware this driver refers to?

Could it be to the HDD that I replaced with a Crucial 1TB SSD?

The laptop has been updated with Windows 20H2 and with HP Support Assistant.

There are no updates to download and install on either Windows Updates or HP Support Assistant!

The laptop seems to be working as normal even with an exclamation mark in Device Manager next to System Firmware.

Thank you for posting back.

As I mentioned earlier you don't have to worry about the Yellow exclamation mark as long your computer is working fine and all drivers are updated.
If you insist you can perform a hard drive test just to ensure your storage drive is fine.

  1. In Windows, search for and open the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics for Windows app.

If this app is not on your computer, download the latest version from the HP Hardware Diagnostics website.

  2. On the main menu, click System Tests.

  3. Click the System Extensive Test tab.

  4. Click Run once.

While the test is running, the time remaining and test result for each component display on the screen. The test can take 2 or more hours to complete.

  5. If a component fails a test, click Troubleshoot.

  6. Follow the on-screen instructions to attempt to resolve the problem, and then click Yes.

  7. If the problem is not resolved, click Yes to contact HP Customer Support.

  8. Write down or copy the failure ID (24-digit code) and product ID for when you contact HP Customer Support.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
