Hi @ekzdee,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be happy to help you!
If your HP laptop isn't charging and the charging light is blinking orange and white, this indicates there may be an issue with the battery, charger, or internal components. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can take to diagnose and potentially fix the issue:
1. Check the Charger and Power Source
- Ensure Proper Connection: Make sure the charger is securely connected to both the laptop and the power outlet.
- Inspect the Charger: Check the charger for any visible damage or frayed wires.
- Try a Different Outlet: Plug the charger into a different power outlet to rule out issues with the outlet.
- Test with Another Charger: If you have access to another compatible HP charger, try using it to see if the problem persists.
2. Perform a Hard Reset
- Turn Off the Laptop: Shut down your laptop completely.
- Remove All Peripherals: Disconnect all external devices such as USB drives, external hard drives, and other peripherals.
- Unplug the Charger: Disconnect the charger from the laptop.
- Remove the Battery (if possible): If your laptop has a removable battery, take it out.
- Press and Hold the Power Button: Hold the power button for at least 15 seconds to drain any residual power.
- Reconnect the Battery and Charger: Reinsert the battery (if removed) and plug the charger back in.
- Turn On the Laptop: Press the power button to turn on the laptop and see if it charges correctly.
3. Check the Battery Health
- Battery Status: Right-click on the battery icon in the taskbar and select Power Options > Battery Report or Battery Health (depending on your Windows version).
- HP Support Assistant: Open HP Support Assistant and navigate to the Battery Check option to run diagnostics on the battery.
4. Update BIOS and Drivers
- Open HP Support Assistant: Search for HP Support Assistant in the Start menu and open it.
- Check for Updates: Look for any available BIOS or driver updates and install them.
- Restart the Laptop: After updating, restart your laptop and check if the charging issue is resolved.
5. Check for Overheating
- Ensure Proper Ventilation: Make sure your laptop is placed on a hard, flat surface to ensure proper airflow.
- Clean the Vents: Use compressed air to clean the vents and remove any dust or debris that might be blocking airflow.
Please find the next set of steps in the next post.

Hi @ekzdee,
Please find the next set of steps below.
6. Test the Laptop Without the Battery (if removable)
- Remove the Battery: If your laptop has a removable battery, take it out.
- Plug in the Charger: Connect the charger directly to the laptop without the battery.
- Turn On the Laptop: If the laptop turns on and operates normally, the issue may be with the battery itself.
7. Reset the Power Management Settings
- Device Manager: Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
- Battery Devices: Expand the Batteries section.
- Uninstall Battery Drivers: Right-click on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and select Uninstall device. Repeat for any other battery-related devices.
- Restart the Laptop: Restart your laptop, and Windows will automatically reinstall the battery drivers.
If none of the above steps resolve the issue, there may be a hardware problem with the battery, charging port, or internal components. Contact HP Support for further assistance or consider visiting a certified repair center.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
