Hi,

Max RAM for your system is 32GB of DDR4 PC4-17000 (2133 MHz)

You can also use 2400Mhz sticks, but they will run at 2133Mhz. On page 2 of service manual you can see all various configurations. On page 44 the method of installation.

Hi David,

So glad that I've found this link/page and your answer, my laptop is HP EliteBook 840 G3 i5-6300U 2.40GHz, 8GB RAM

Wanted to upgrade to 16GB with the following:

2x SK Hynix 8GB DDR4 1Rx8 PC4-2400T HMA81GS6AFR8N-UH SO-DIMM Laptop RAM Memory

The product info page tell me (to my best understanding) that it's OK but guess you would help me to make a better judgement:

Thank you for spending time to advise.

Hi @Whirlwind2k

I believe the RAM you linked will not work. It is ECC memory and you need non-ECC memory.

Example:

https://www.crucial.com/usa/en/compatible-upgrade-for/HP-Compaq/elitebook-840-g3#MEMORYFilters

or Hynix memory

Hope it helps,

David

Hi David,

The more I dig into variety options for buying RAM, the more complicated it gets. Trying to find memory kit (16GB Kit = 8GBx2) within the speed capacity of HP 840 G3 (2133 MHz PC4-17000), I discovered "single rank" and "dual rank" kit, which one will work best for this particular model?

Kind Regards,

WW
