Out of nowhere, my laptop began freezing frequently, where only the mouse is able to move (though unable to interact with anything). I go to the event viewer, and an event is logged at the exact time the freeze happens. I will paste it below:

I have found that the device causing this error is the Intel 100 series/c230 series chipset family PCI Express Root Port #5 - A114.

If anyone at all knows how to fix this, please help me.

Hey there! @mairen,

Were there any recent windows update on the PC?

Try updating the windows to the latest version and check if it helps.

Try the steps recommended below.

Turn off the computer.
Remove the computer from any port replicator or docking station.
Disconnect all external connected peripheral devices such as USB storage devices, external displays, and printers.
Unplug the AC adapter from the computer.
Remove the battery from the battery compartment.
With the battery and power cord unplugged, press and hold the Power button for about 15 seconds to drain any residual electrical charge from the capacitors.
Insert the battery and plug the AC adapter back into the laptop, but do not connect any of the peripheral devices.
Press the Power button to turn on the computer.
If a startup menu opens, use the arrow keys to select Start Windows Normally, and then press the Enter key.
After Windows opens, reconnect each peripheral device that was disconnected, one device at a time, until all devices are reconnected.

Also, try the steps recommended below.

1. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del, select Task Manager.

2. From the File menu, select Run new task.

3. Put a check mark next to Create this task with administrative privileges and tap or click OK.

4. Type cmd and hit Enter.

5. Type the following commands in same order in the Command prompt window:

a. Type sfc /scannow and press Enter.

(This command scans and verifies the integrity of all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct versions).

b. Type Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth and press Enter.

c. Type Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth and press Enter.

d. Type Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth and press Enter.

(These commands fix any files that System File Checker can't repair and Windows corruption errors).

e. Close the command window.

f. Check to see if the issue is resolved. If not, restart the system.

Try updating the BIOS and chipset driver on the PC to the latest version and check if it helps.

Hi! @mairen,

Thanks for the update. I have checked the records and found a service advisory related to the issue you have mentioned.

This error code is related to the Central Processing Unit (CPU) error. This occurs randomly, during computer startup, while loading Windows or performing normal tasks.

To resolve this issue, download and install the following SoftPaq to update the graphic driver.

NOTE: A command prompt screen is displayed during the SoftPaq installation. Do not close the screen. Wait for the driver update to complete.

Update the graphics driver using this link. Click Here

Let me know if this helps!

Take Care! 🙂
